In class, we watch the video once. After the video, students write down as many of the stories as they can remember. They share with their groups and then with the entire class. They can also ask questions if they want clarifications on a story. We use the interactive lyrics (pictured right) to get more details - I admit that I do not always know some of the stories referenced. You get a short story synopsis by clicking on the blue links in the actual interactive lyrics. After we discuss some of the stories, we watch the video a second time.
There are times students fill in a graphic organizer to go over who, what, when, where, why, and how the news affects them. This year I am going to have the graphic organizer be a storyboard for a newscast. They will have to find an appropriate image and a map to go along with their stories. The entire thing can be put together in iMovie or another movie creation app. Our library has a Green Screen, so sometimes I might have them utilize that and the DoInk Green Screen App. |

CurriculetPDF files or websites can be uploaded to Curriculet. Words or phrases can be annotated or questions attached in line. The image is the student view of a completed Curriculet for the Year in Rap lyrics from Flocabulary.
Curriculet has worked well with complex topics that the students need more background information to understand. |
